"Swallow" 5" narrow gauge locomotive. |
"SWALLOW" is a Standard gauge 0-4-0 shunter based on the
locomotive supplied to Messrs Cadbury Bros of Bournville in 1959. This
engine joined four Avonside built locos of similar design, but of a much
earlier date, they were Introduced between 1910 - 20. AII these locomotives
were painted in the distinctive Cadbury livery of bright red, lined out in
yellow & black and with the Cadbury Bournville lettering along the tank
sides, in gold leaf , edged in crimson. |

These handsome engines worked the extensive rail
system at Bournville for many years and there is at least one survivor in
preservation. Around this time, Hunslet built and supplied a number of
similar locomotives for use in industry and as such, are typical of the last
British industrial steam locomotives on the Standard gauge. |

Swallow features the well
proven Maxitrak one piece chassis casting incorporating buffer beams, spring
buffers, stretchers and rivet detail. Other notable features are the side
tanks castings, with rivet detail, and the cab with removable back panel
allowing access to the footplate for driving. |
The
model is fully detailed with handrails, lubricators, tank fillers, three
link couplings, dome, whistle and rivets in all the right places. As with
all Maxitrak steam locos, Swallow is available in fully machined kit form or
ready to run. |
